This workshop is designed to help dedicated photographers who wish to publish a book in a serious but relaxed and non-competitive environment. The workshop will guide participants from concept development to editing, sequencing, layout, design, and making a physical photobook (aka dummy). Instruction on how to organize images, how to make a layout using Adobe In Design, and making a hand-made book will be covered. Insight into the business-side of the photobook industry, from self-publishing to publishing by a publisher to distribution and promotion of a published book, and various venues to compete for dummy awards and photobook awards will also be discussed. Participants will also have access to peruse the photobook library at MLFA during class time.

Workshop participants are required to bring approximately 100-200 small prints (4x6 inches) from a body of work, a laptop computer with Adobe In Design installed, and an external hard drive. Please also bring text, ephemera, and memorabilia, if available. Basic knowledge of Adobe In Design is required. Those who are not familiar with Adobe In Design should learn the basics before coming to the workshop (using online resources).
