ICP Bookmaking Masterclass in Honolulu

May 21 - June 1, 2018

The International Center of Photography (New York) in partnership with Minny Lee Fine Art of Honolulu, present the ICP Bookmaking Masterclass in Honolulu.

Making a book is a significant accomplishment for a photographer, as well as a crucial step in establishing one’s identity. During ICP’s intensive two-week Masterclass in Bookmaking—part of ICP’s new global reach initiative—master faculty guide students through the multiple phases involved in the production of these complex and highly personal publications.

As students learn to conceptualize, edit, outline, design, and sequence pictures and text to create a finished book, they also have the opportunity to make a softcover or hardcover book or zine, which can be developed into a publishing project or a hand-sewn or accordion-style book.

This Masterclass features individual editing sessions, InDesign instruction, design tips, and bookbinding sessions. Lectures delve into a range of topics, from a history of photography books to the self-publishing industry to book proposals to working with designers.

Participants’ final books will be exhibited on the last day of the Masterclass at Minny Lee Fine Art in Honolulu, Hawaii. A public opening and lecture will give students the chance to meet with the burgeoning local art community.
